PROJECT PROFILE

SouthSide Works

SouthSide Works is a commercial development on the Monongahela riverfront in Pittsburgh’s historic Southside neighborhood. They commissioned a 9,600 sq.ft. mural art work for the side of a 7-story parking garage.

For this project, we were thrilled to partner with commercial painting company Bella’s Army. With inspiration provided by the developer, we commissioned 4 designs by area artists for mural art. Artist Alison Zapata was selected with input from the developer and the painting team. After painting the entire garage, Bella’s Army executed the mural on one side of the building with approval from the artist.

The artist worked with the painting crew to ensure that the mural art matched the proportions and colors of the original design. The combination of the artist’s knowledge and the painting crew’s experience with large sites allowed the project to be executed very quickly, with the actual mural taking less than 10 days.

“I think what made us happiest at SouthSide Works was the community's reaction. The mural by local artist Alison Zapata brought to us by CDCP is a true sign of change at the property and a welcoming beacon for the neighborhood and visitors.”
